4K Projection Mapped 3D animation utilising Cinema 4D and Motion Tracking.

‘Reprise’ is a digital interpretation of the movement, rhythm and flow of the human body captured and projection-mapped to the surface of the Gertrude Street Hotel in Fitzroy Melbourne Australia.

The project utilises digitally tracked motion data of yogi Masha Gorodilova moving through a unique choreographed asana sequence and re-illustrates the points of motion into a dynamic abstracted form.

Tracking motion can be described as the practice of recording certain positions of moving points in space. ‘Reprise’ contains the recorded movements of yogi Masha Gorodilova performing advanced yoga poses. By tracking and tracing the movement between each pose, ‘Reprise’ invites the viewer to witness the unseen liminal movements in a poetic and ethereal form.

The Masha gracefully glides from pose to pose, creating a smooth and flowing rhythmical movement. The sequence of poses performed was originally choreographed to be projection-mapped onto the facade of the Gertrude Street Hotel. They interacted with the existing features of the building such as the bricks, windows, edges of the projection and the wall. Giving the viewer the perception that the figure was moving on the surface of the wall.

‘Reprise’ is a visual exploration of rhythm and expression and emphasises the gracefulness and strength of the human body.
