REFLECTIONS

Reflections at Digital Graffiti by Krystal Schulthiess 02.jpg

4K Projection Mapped 3D animation utilising Cinema 4D and OTOY Octane Render.

‘Reflections’ is a visual response as an Artist in Residence to the architecture of a featured site at the Digital Graffiti Projection Festival. The work is an exploration of how light, refraction and the illumination of abstracted crystal geometric forms could interact within the space of a projection-mapped building facade.

2017 - Artist in Residence at Alys Beach’s Digital Graffiti Projection Festival with Christie Digital. Projected by 2 x 4K res 30,000 lumens projectors

2017 - It was shortlisted as a finalist in the motion category at the AGDA awards.

2018 - Adapted and projection-mapped to the Walls of Whitehart Bar.

REFLECTIONS | DIGITAL GRAFFITI USA

A 4K Projection Mapped 3D animation. Projected by 2 x 4K res 30,000 lumens projectors at Digital Graffiti Projection Festival with Christie Digital and Alys beach. ‘Reflections’ is a visual response to the architecture of a featured site at the Digital Graffiti Projection Festival. The work is an exploration of how light, refraction and the illumination of abstracted crystal geometric forms can interact within the space of a projection mapped building facade. Projection mapping is the art of tracing over a physical surface while seemingly augmenting reality. The piece 'Reflections' utilises these tools to animate forms which interact within the physical space, warping our understanding of the existing architecture. Reflections is inspired by the visual obscurity of light created within naturally occurring crystals. Light illumination and reflection properties are taken into consideration in creating the digitally generated geometric objects. The crystals textures are further abstracted by the atmospheric light within the digital environment. The crystal structures form and animate predominantly across the far sides of the facade to create an enclosed space within the building. The fluid like movement of the objects within the digital space influence the texture of the crystals to create mesmerizing abstract imagery. ‘Reflections’ invites viewers to experience an exploration of imagined spaces created by the gentle movements, and the reflective nature of light in digital crystal forms.

REFLECTIONS | WHITEHART BAR

After the artwork 'Reflections' was shown in Alys Beach Florida USA. It finds a home in Melbourne at Whitehart Bar where it has been adapted to work with the surrounding brickwork walls of the urban style inner city Melbourne Bar. ‘Reflections’ is a visual response to the architecture of a featured site at the Digital Graffiti Projection Festival.
